041 - Christians and Muslims on the road into the 21st century - The main theme
ENEC – 1/05 – 2009
Religions and cultures in comparison for a Planetary Humanism
In the respect of each other’s beliefs, it is necessary to work for the recognition of natural law and common values as a meeting point for peace.
The challenge lies in being able to give a common response to the problems of the 21st century, as well as preparing the new generations for multi-ethnic religious and cultural coexistence, starting from the experience of the Christian Arabs: The relationship between Islam and Christianity in the Middle East, indicates some critical issues related to the issue of cultural and religious minorities, issues of great importance that make us understand and manage the presence of Muslims in European countries (Agnelli Foundation).
A dialogue of life: non-ideological, on the rights and dignity of the person, aimed at conversion of heart.
042 - CHRISTIANS AND MUSLIMS IN MILAN: WHAT DIALOGUE?
COMMUNITY – 06 – 2010
Christians and Muslims in Milan: what dialogue? Together with Christianity and Judaism it is possible to share precious resources to build the global culture of Peace and Fraternity.
Recent events have brought to light behaviours originating from Arab immigration, not referable to other immigrants, which have, to say the least, astonished the majority of Italians, incomprehensible behaviours but which have as their origin the social structure of the Arab countries. In fact, the Arab, accustomed to living in a mono-cultural environment, is confronted by global emigration with diversified environments, is frightened by the apparent absence of God, is pushed to shut himself away and the Muslims to turn to Islamic centres which are proliferated thanks to the financing of the Arab countries. Islam thus becomes for many young immigrants the only clear reference point both on a cultural and religious level.
043 -LETTER TO THE MEMBERS OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND THE ITALIAN PARLIAMENT
CADR AMBROSIANO – 31/01/2011
Ladies and gentlemen,
We have been committed to inter-religious dialogue for more than twenty years, starting from Milan but also throughout the country. We intend to convey to you our voice united with that of many other men and women who have already spoken out on the tragic events of Alexandria and beyond, so that the Members of the European Parliament may become increasingly effective promoters of justice, freedom and peaceful coexistence among the peoples of the Mediterranean area. After the serious fact of the killing of Christians in Alexandria (it is now known that for years during the Christmas holidays this violence has been repeated in the country), we would like to state, first of all, that Christians in the Arab world are native citizens with duties and rights towards their own country and who govern regardless of the religious beliefs of the majority; instead, it seems that they are considered and perceived both inside and outside the country as a foreign ethnic group. It is not just a question of increasing protection measures through law enforcement: it is not a question of security, but of ‘culture’.
